José Ignacio Lapido
I am delighted to share my new collaboration with Spanish musician José Ignacio Lapido. This time round we worked in a poster for his 25th anniversary solo career concerts that will take place in Granada next 13th and 14th December 2024.
José Ignacio Lapido has one of the most prodigious musical careers I know of. It spans more than four decades, firstly with his incredible 091 band and then on his own. His genius is in creating a very personal yet relatable language full of visual metaphors. Add to it the mastery with which music and lyrics perfectly interlace each other, making the perfect case for those who think rock can be just as good in a language other than English. As a result, his songs stick to your mind from the first listen. They become the way you articulate your thoughts before you even notice. Pure magic.
But that’s not all, his work if full of great cultural references that are are spread through his lyrics as some sort of Easter eggs. If you get them, it is incredibly satisfying as it multiplies your complicity with what he is saying. If you don’t, they serve as a window to exciting new worlds. My teenager self owes to him the discovery Jack Kerouac, Wilde, Poe, Elmore James, Robert Johnson…
And finally he is an example of professional approach to your craft like no other. Centred in creating work and the space to allow for it, he figured out a way of doing so independently before anyone else did in Spain. A true trailblazer and an example to anyone working in anything creative.
This poster marks the third collaboration with José Ignacio Lapido. Previously, I made two videos for singles of his last two albums:
It is an absolute honour to have worked with one of my all-time heroes and play a small part in his universe. The fan in me is as proud as can be.
So here is to celebrate José Ignacio’s 25th anniversary in his solo career and in anticipation of what is still to come.
