Japanese Ghost Stories

They are very strange. The ghost in these stories are just terrifying. But it is how the living approach them that makes these tales so weird.

A Turn of the Screw

I made these images as part of a Masterclass with Yuko Shimizu at Atelier Olschinski in Vienna in October 2023.

I wanted to look deep into my procress of image making and understand where it was leading. Graphite has been responsible for the big step up my illustration took in 2019. But there was something that still felt out of place with a lot of my work. Taking the time to reflect on it and having Yuko commenting on what she saw has been invaluable. There is a new new approach to work emerging from it that I absolutely love. Still organic. Still digital too. But very cohesive in all its parts.

These are just the first two pieces where I can see it working. Many more to come.
